Do you have the willpower?
People who have more power of will and self discipline are happier and successful than those who don't.
Willpower... This reminds me of some characters from certain cartoons that i used to watch when i was a child.
Also, it reminds me of some anime characters such as Luffy from One Piece. I was and i am still impressed by how strong his will power is. In fact, all characters from that Anime tend to have a strong power of will. How amazing ha?
I am sorry i have to bring you back to reality now. Real life is not like Anime, you can't have infinite willpower.
Sometimes you feel awesome and that there is nothing that can stop you. That's a good thing. But there is those moments when you feel down, when you give up all your dreams and life goals, when you lose your power of will and just sit there alone in your room thinking about how crappy life is.
You may be already bored from reading this post. But you came here for a reason right? you want an answer, you want to know how to increase your willpower because you're tired of quitting everything you start.
Put it like a test. Do you have enough power of will to read this post until the end?
Let's face it, you can't have more willpower if you just sit there in your room doing nothing but watching movies, listening to music and playing video games.
Think about the power of will as a muscle, a tiny muscle that just sits there without being used at all.
In order to bulk up some muscles you need to go to the gym and workout for a while right? It's the same thing. Well almost the same.. except in this case you don't need to go to the gym and lift some heavy weights. All it requires is using 5 to 30 minutes per day to make this muscle grow bigger.
How do you do that? this takes me to the next point.
21st century sucks.
Everybody looks busy while in fact he's doing nothing, and everyone looks at people who actually have peace of mind as losers who have nothing to do. We love looking busy because it gives us the feeling of being someone's important.
He's cool!
We all have that one lazy friend who looks like he lives an easy life. Sometime you text that friend of yours in the morning and you don't get a respond from him until it's evening. When you meet him and ask him what's up or how was his day, his response would probably be :
" Nothing's much, i was just slacking off and watching some cool Tom Cruise movies "
And guess what? even though your friend's life seems cool and peaceful. Yet, he doesn't have peace of mind. His life is stressful too, he always wonders about his feature and he probably takes at least one hour of thinking about his life problems just right before he sleeps.
Finding peace of mind is hard when we think about it.
We live everyday following our boring routine without taking one moment to think about our lives. Read carefully. Recent researches show that people who meditate everyday have more grey matter in their prefrontal cortex.
One of the most important function of the prefrontal cortex is that it makes you choose what's right and what's wrong, it's generally responsible for decision making. The more grey matter you have in there, the better your decisions would be.
Start meditating 5 minutes everyday and then make it longer if you want to. Remember that the secret is not in meditating for a long period of time, the secret is in persistence.
Scientists said that you can feel and notice the change after 8 weeks of daily meditation. It's better to meditate 5 minutes every day for 8 weeks than to meditate 1 hour everyday for a week.
Religious people tend to have more peace of mind, i think it's because they have their own meditation methods.
As an example, a Christian goes to the church to pray, confess his sins and do all other Christians stuff. Somehow, it makes him feel way more better than we was before he went to the church.
A Muslim man goes to the Al-Masjid ( mosque ) 5 times a day to pray. After each prayer he gets out of the mosque feeling peaceful and satisfied. Again, this makes him feel way more better than we was before he went to the mosque.
What i am trying to say is that a religious person takes some time to be alone, just him and god, he doesn't think about life problems in that particular time. It's like he escapes from all life problems for a moment and have a little peace of mind.
The effect is incredible!
Meditation whether it is done in a religious, spiritual or a scientific way, it will surely help you make better decision and have more power of will and self discipline in the future.
It's been 48 hours and i still didn't sleep yet!
I remember saying that to my friends back in high school, i was proud of it. Everybody who has the ability to stay awake all night long felt proud and powerful, or at least that's what we thought back then.
I was wrong, sleep is important.
I know you heard this dozens of times before, if not thousands. But it's true, having some quality sleep each night is important for both your mind and body to relax, refresh and get ready for the next day.
Scientists confirm that 6 to 8 hours of sleep every night is important, some says it's essential.
I don't want to be against science, but sometimes when i sleep only 4 hours, i wake up fully refreshed the next morning, much more better than when i sleep 6 or 8 hours. It's good to follow what science has to say, but always test yourself and see what's best for you.
To the important point. When you sleep enough, your mind and body function way better during the next day, when your mind function better this makes you able to make better decision and have more willpower.
That's right. If you have no goals and no dreams at all, your life would feel very empty as if you live for nothing. You must have goals to achieve, and you must have dreams to make them come true.
People may have told you before to start small and then go big. I think that's wrong. My idea is to start big in the plan and start small in reality. Confused?
When you're setting your life goals, start with a big one and put it in the top of the list, then go slowly down and put other small goals in the middle, and then put even smaller goals, the list goes on. You can set daily, weekly, monthly and even yearly goals, but the most important thing is that all your small goals should get you one step closer to achieve that one big fat goal in the end.
Your biggest dream is not a stable job, a car and a house.
Don't settle for those small material things. Have some more valuable dreams that would be a good thing for the whole world if they come true.
Be passionate about what you do. If your dream is to become a doctor, think about how you could help people. If your dream is to become a writer, think about how you can offer something valuable to your readers. If your dream is to be a president, think about how you can improve your country. DON'T THINK ABOUT MATERIAL THINGS ONLY.
I am pretty sure that if you're passionate about what you do, you'll have more willpower to keep doing it. When your power of will is strong, you'll do it perfectly. Everybody wins, end of the story.
This is life, sometimes we fall and sometimes we win.
It's certain that you'll fail to achieve one of your goals sometime, but that shouldn't stop you from progressing. If you stop there then you'll give yourself and excuse to rely on in the future.
You'll be fooled by your mind. Every time you want to do something different your mind will remind you of your last failure, so that you'll be get afraid and end that thing before you even start it.
If you fail in something, remember the life of Steve Jobs. He lost his CEO position in his OWN apple company, but that didn't stop him from creating another company ( Next Company ) because he believed in himself and in his dreams.
If you fail, it's not the end of the world. Failing is actually another opportunity to learn something new.
When you fail in something just look for the reasons that caused your failure in the first place and learn from those mistakes, then start again. If you didn't make it in the first year, you'll make it in the second one.
People have the ability to affect other people around them. If all your friends play video games every Friday, there is a high chance that you'll start playing video games every Friday too.
When you're the only negative person in a group of optimists, those people would support you and encourage you to do all the things you were afraid to do before. Plus they will give you the chance to be at your best.
Don't get me wrong, you can have all sort of friends, just make sure to choose carefully those who you spend most of your time with, because the more time you spend with somebody, the higher the chance is to influence you.
You can influence people too!
If you have good ideas, you can share them with people and influence them too, but make sure your ideas are good and correct. You don't wanna share stupid ideas do you?

Night time is my favorite time to stay awake!
